Share The Moment You Knew- Contest

This Week’s PAM initiative is Nurture. How do you Nurture yourself? A different type of Facebook contest this week, sponsored by e.p.t:

Before and during pregnancy, we must nourish and care for our bodies to create a healthy and safe haven for our baby(ies). As mothers, we are always on call, but it is important that we continue to care for ourselves so that we can best care for others.

This week, we are doing something a little different. We are asking you to share your unique stories in exchange for a donation that will help Nurture and assist women who are unable to financially care for their families. Moms and Moms-To-Be are encouraged to share their story of “The Moment They Knew” they were pregnant. Where were you? Who did you tell first? How did you tell your partner? Did you save your pregnancy test?

For every story submitted, e.p.t.® will donate $1 to Room to Grow, an organization that is dedicated to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development. Comment and share your story, and help us Nurture other families this week. Our goal is to raise $1,000. Your comment counts.

With my current pregnancy I really had no clue I was pregnant until the day I took the test. I had just started my first semester of collage about a month before and I was so caught up in everything that I didn’t even realize I was late. Then one morning I woke up and it hit me, I just knew. I sent my husband to the dollar store to get a pregnancy test and what do ya know I I’M PREGNANT(with my second)! I told my husband first then my mother both were very excited! My husband instantly looked at our little girl and said “Your going to be our little big sister!” AT first I was in shock and then at the flip of a coin I was devastated thinking that I was taking something(attention mostly) away from our little girl who is almost two. but after a few days reality hit me and I got excited and realized what a gift I was giving my little girl!

I knew almost the moment I was pregnant when my brother called the week after Thanksgiving to tell me that his girlfriend (now wife) was pregnant. I joked and told him “uh-oh, I’d better be careful or we might end up with another repeat of last time” (my newphew, his first and only until this pregnancy and my daughter, my first and only until this pregnancy are only 20 days apart). After the call I got to thinking about when my last period was and I couldn’t remember But I knew it was before Halloween. I bought a Home test which came up with an invalid result and then proceeded to go to a clinic to get tested. Low and behold, when tested I was just about 6 weeks pregnant. Somehow, deep down, I knew that I was pregnant when my brother called to let me know about theirs.

Well lets see I will use my 4th pregnancy because this one is so fresh in my mind. I found out a few days before my missed period at home actually using an ept test. I just knew I was pg and was praying very hard I was. I wanted to have another baby for about 2yrs but hubby kept on saying not now. But I knew God had other plans and that november would be my month for a positive pregnancy text and sure enough it was. If you rewind back about a week I was in the grocery store and they had the 3 pck ept on sale buy one get one free so that is how I knew that I was goingt o get my positive that month. I usually just buy the dollar store ones. The family is very excited and this baby, a girl evens it out. I will have 2 boys and 2 girls. I can not wait to meet this little one in a few months. I am so glad ept is doing this to help moms not as fortunate as myself and others. God Bless.

I had a feeling that I had finally gotten pregnant but I didn’t tell my husband. I got home early on Friday and took the test in secret. I didn’t want to get his hopes up until I knew for sure. I took the test and it was positive. Right then I kinda wished I had waited so we could look together. I wrapped the test up as a gift and after a hard day at work, my husband finally came in and I handed him his gift. We just hugged each other. He then went and bought another test! He made me take 3 before he finally took it in that we were going to have a baby!

I found out a day after my period was late by taking a test. It was a surprise that was very emotional to handle at first. I am 34 about to be 35 and always hoped I would get the chance to be a mom, but had kind of given up on that dream until this sweet surprise. I have grown to love surprises even more now and can’t wait to meet the most amazing one of my life when he arrives in Oct:)

  6. Lauren

I had NO clue! But I was really early on…

I had gone into the OB for my yearly exam, all the while telling her how we’d been trying for 2 years and how I think it was time to go back on birthcontrol to regulate my periods again. All was said and done, when my Doctor knocked on the door. “You’re test wasn’t negative, but it wasn’t 100% positive…” There was a very very faint line. I went in for blood tests and said a little prayer on the way home “little baby, if you stick around, I’ll be the best mommy you’ll ever have”. I got the call about 4-5 days later that I was only 3.5 weeks along!
I seriously tested at home once a week until my ultrasound around 6 weeks (and even a few times after that!) to make sure I was still pregnant!

  7. sarah

I knew right away.. the first week my whole body had changed so I took a test before my missed period and it was positive. It was the best day ever!

  8. Justin

We were in Alaska visiting family and had been married for all of 3 months at the time. My wife felt strongly that something was different with her body. So she took the EPT test and confirmed she was indeed preganant. As a result, we were able to share the great, unexpected, news in real time with friends and family.

  9. Jen

I knew I was pregnant when my best friend from high school, who I had hardly spoken too since I was 21 (now 35), showed up on my front porch, despite my 3 address changes in the past 14 years, saying, “I just had this feeling you were pregnant so I wanted to be here for you”. I was only about 3 days pregnant at the time.

  10. Ann

I knew I was pregnant the day after I tried to conceive. We were doing an insemination at home and this was our first try. We thought that we had messed it up after the fact and then my temp didn’t spike as expected the next morning anyway so we really didn’t think it had worked. We were scheduled to try again the day after. I was at work not even thinking about it at all when a strange feeling came over me. I felt euphoric. My arms were tingly and my skin was extra sensitive. I felt a little “high” and just ecstatic all over. At first I thought something was wrong with me and I tried to shake it off and think what I might have eaten to make me feel this way and then I realized OMG I just conceived this very moment! I tried to enjoy the rest of the sensations but it didn’t last very long. I called my wife to tell her the good new and that though it seemed crazy, that I was sure I felt the conception. We canceled the second insemination and when I took the pregnancy test 2 weeks later…Pregnant!

  11. Anne Obermueller

We had been trying with continued negative results. So in July 5 days before my period was supposed to start I took the test. At first I thought it said negative but then I looked again and saw the faintest line! I couldn’t believe it, yelled at my husband to come look and see to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing. Then next day I could tell a difference in my body! Amazing!

  12. kari

I was in a hotel in Aspen walking to my room after breakfast. I smelled an odd smell and I gagged. I knew I was pregnant when a smell made me gag!

  13. Amanda m

I knew i was pregnant .. i just knew i took two tests a day and each day they got darker and darker, on the fourth day it came in clear… PREGNANT- i was so happy i fiance was shocked :]

  14. Judy

When I got pregnant this time around, I had no idea. I felt off, and decided to test. I figured it would be negative. We’d tried for over a year with no luck. I have health issues and a bad ovary. We decided that our two are enough. I was beyond shocked when the test read “pregnant” and took 4 more tests. I woke my husband by waving my sticks in his face, just in shock. It wasn’t planned, but it’s still an amazing miracle. It’s been a bumpy road due to my health, but I am enjoying every moment.

  15. Michelle

With my first child…we were trying and trying and finally ended up using a fertility treatment. I had so many false tests that I gave up really thinking I may be pregnant. I took the test and just went about calling a friend and chatting for awhile. I went back to look at the test expecting a big fat – and was surprised to see a +!! I was so thrilled! I told my husband by showing him the test. He was half asleep in our bedroom and asked, “Who? You?” Uh…no, just wondered if it was his… LOL

With my second child, I again didn’t really have a clue. We decided to start trying again after we found out I had polycystic ovaries, expecting the same tedious wait. I had a migraine with nausea for a few days and a friend of mine asked me if I could be pregnant. We hadn’t used any fertility drugs at all, so I didn’t think it was possible. I took the test and within seconds it was positive! I grabbed our daughter and asked her if she was ready to be a big sister! We were all so thrilled!

  16. Kristin Campbell

We are currently pregnant with our 5th child. I am almost 3 months along. I didn’t Ind out until I was 2 months along! I was so weepy and thought it was due to stress and I couldn’t eat or sleep. Again I thought it was stress. But after two months of it I finally broke down and bought a test. About a minute later I was freaking out in My bathroom. My husband works over the road so it took eight hours until I could tell him the news. It was the longest eight ours of my lfe! LOL. We are on another journey again and what a wild rude its going to be. In our house there is already a gender war between my two eldest children. So we are all excited! LOL.

  17. Ariana

I was on the patch and wasn’t feeling so well, my period was a day late so I bought a 2 pack of tests and took one and it was negative, I was relieved bc my husband and I are a young married couple and already had 2 kids. A few days later I still hadn’t gotten my period and I started to have some pregnancy symptoms, so I took the other test and it was positive! I was feeling every emotion all at once and knew I was going to have the baby but didn’t know how my husband was going to react so I waited til I got to work and called him and I guess he already had a feeling and he pretty much knew before I told him. Needless to say, my son is now 5 months old and we couldn’t imagine life without him!

I haven’t been feeling well for a week or so and was really tired. I didn’t think I was pregant because it had been 8yrs since my last baby and I had went to a fertilty doc and took treatments and still nothing. So i decided to be on the safe side and take a test. When noone was home I took the test and it came out postive! I still didn’t belive it so I went to the doc’s to have another one done before I told anyone. My son is almost 4yrs old and was the biggest surprise in my life. lol

The moment I first knew was when I felt butterflies in my tummy. I just knew. I tested with an EPT and confirmed my feelings. We told my mother and sister first. It has been a pleasant adventure since then!

  21. Erin

I knew I was probably pregnant when I fainted–completely blacked out–on the downtown 5 train in NYC. I was taken to the hospital via ambulance from Union Square. They did take a pregnancy test; however, it was too soon. But I knew it was a good possibility. Turns out, we had just conceived two days before that.

  22. Emma Wallace

I had a feeling that whole first month! And then I skipped my period and I was pretty sure but the pregnancy test didn’t work! After I missed my second period, we were pretty certain. At first, we were shocked but have gotten more and more excited as time has gone by! It’ll be our very first.

  23. L.A. Stylist Mom

The first time it was “The best hamburger I have ever eaten in my entire life.”

The second time it was “The best meatloaf I have ever eaten in my entire life.”

    I’m not a ground beef fan. : )

My husband and I were on the east coast visiting his family. During our stay I just felt strange. I really didn’t think about being pregnant, I just figured it was from traveling. Finally while there I said to my husband, I could be pregnant. We were both pretty freaked and decided to wait until we got home, I was only several days t a week late. When we landed we got in the car and went straight to a drug store. When we got home I just remmember the pregnancy test did not need even 30 seconds to show a clear positive. We were shocked but happy. I’m glad he was with me from suspicion to validation.

  25. Anna Getty

I was eating a bowl of goat milk yogurt with bananas, honey and almond butter. Yes, I know weird combo. I had already taken 8 tests that were all negative. I thought this one would be too. I walked away with bowl in hand and forgot about the test. Minutes later I looked at the test and it was positive. I burst into laughter and then tears of joy. Later when my husband came home I handed him the test.

  26. 4th Time Momma

It was the end of April and I had all the symptoms for my period but no period… I am never late so I went to my calendar and couldn’t find an entry for April. I knew it right then. I thought maybe my cycle was changing or that I must’ve forgot to write it down. My husband was off that Friday so we went to Target to get a pregnancy test so I went to the bathroom and the test came out positive. When I told him yes he hugged me right in the store…

  27. Andie

I remember it like it was yesterday. I had gone off the pill to try on concieve. My periods always came on a wednesday. The second moth off the pill, it didnt come so the next day I took two tests which both came back positive. It just didnt feel real. Th very next day I was at the docter. After I took the doctors test the nurse came in and started filling out a paper “so Im pregnant?” I asked her and she replied “Yup! Congradulations!” That was when it sank in. My daughter is now 16 months old and that little girl is my entire world! <3

  28. Melissa

My husband and I had been trying to conceive for 3 months. I missed my period and thought…could it be? I checked it 3x at home with pregnancy tests and sure enough, 3x positive!!! Then I went into the doctor who confirmed it with a blood test. Our baby girl will be turning 6 years old next month!!! =)

  29. Mande

I was working for Walmart at the time and I felt really sick and thought I had contracted an infection in my bladder. There was some pain, and my worst fear was bladder cancer as I have one aunt who has dealt with just that. My husband came to pick me up and took me to the hospital. I was throwing up, my throat feeling raw and just felt really awful. I was told I couldn’t get pregnant without the use of fertility drugs because of my PCOS, though we still wanted to try conventional methods, like dieting and exercising. When they took my blood, I told them it was a waste of time that I couldn’t be pregnant, but I knew they had to check anyway.

“Well, I have some good news for you. You don’t have an infection.”

I was relieved beyond anything. That made feel better. “So what’s the bad news?”

“There is no bad news. Congratulations. You’re pregnant.”

We both looked at the doctor like he was crazy. There was no way possible. They took us to radiology and I saw the little blimp on the screen. I couldn’t believe it! We were pregnant! After nearly three years of actively trying and almost giving up hope! We were finally pregnant!

As soon as I was discharged, I called my grandmother. John and I talked about who would know first and since we live more than 2,000 miles from my family ha said to call her first. She was thrilled and so excited! We told everyone I had a bladder infection until we could get everyone else together. His dad and step mom were next and were very excited. We took his mom and brother out to breakfast.

“Alex (John’s brother) told me you had to go to the hospital.”

“Yah, about that. They ran some tests on me,” John said as Alex looked at him weird knowing I was the one that was admitted. “They ran some tests and told me I was going to die.”

She busted out laughing, knowing he was always a jokester. She started to take a bite of food and wash it down.

“But seriously, I’m six weeks pregnant.”

I thought they were going to have to come tell her to be quiet. First grandbaby and all.

  30. Amy Touchette

We figured we were pregnant when I got home from work and asked my husband if he was eating chips and he said yeah, six hours ago.

  31. Collin

We knew we were pregnant after we did the test.

We still have the picture of us, holding up the result!

  32. Joyce Purcell

We wanted a baby so badly and I had been having some problems with my period, so my doctor suggested that we try using ovulation tests. After hundreds of dollars worth of tests he finally gave me some clomid. I continued taking the ovulation tests so we could be sure to conceive. I decided to switch tests that month to save some money and never really got a clear read that I was ovulating. We just decided that we would try everyday since my cycle was a little funky (sounds fun, but it was exhausting). A few weeks later I was sick with “the flu” and had horrible heart burn (I never got heartburn before). So I decided that I would take a pregnancy test. As soon as the test turned up positive I started sobbing and called my husband into the bathroom. All he said was “I told you.” I actally took a picture of the test and emailed it to my mom. We were so happy!

  33. Sara

It was the first day of June. I had an overwhleming desire to dress up in my cutiest dress. I walked around the yard barefoot and sat down in the freshly cut grass. A kitten came out from under the shed and I knew I had a life growing inside me. I began to cry as I watched that little kitten play. I knew my daughter would be here soon.

  34. Kealy

DH figured out i was pregnant with our daughter (2nd child) when I asked for pickles and pistachio icecream (the only really weird craving I’ve ever had).

  35. Kealy

This time with our 3rd, we had a feeling, but weren’t sure until we took a test and saw the positive. The funny thing about it was that I took the test and told dh just before he went to work, and he was so out of it the entire day because he also found out that he was getting a promotion and basically starting a whole new department at work that day. He ended up leaving work early because he couldn’t focus on anything from all the excitement lol

  36. Lisa Druxman

So often we think that we have to do something big to nurture ourselves. I frequently hear things like get a massage or go to the spa. However, you can nurture yourself daily with just a little time. I do something I can “take 10″. Every day, I take ten minutes to either read, meditate or just lay down. I literally put a timer on. Giving myself 10 minutes to recharge is surprisingly effective and something I really look forward to!

  37. Linda

I was trying to get prego. I looked up online and tracked my cycles and waited until my ovulation. and after I waited until the first day of my nxt period and took a test and it was positive. I was 3 weeks prego :D

  38. Alisa Donner

I woke up and sat straight up in bed at 4am stating outloud, “I’m late!” It woke up my husband who looked at me in a confused state as I ran to look at the calendar. “I’m 14 days late Ron! We need to get a pregnancy test.” I am as regular as a clock, and the fact that I had not noticed my tardiness in cycle was actually, I learned later, part of the memory/mind impact of being pregnant. And I was so tired lately, thought I had mono, and hungry, wow. Had gotten into some arguments with my spouse about mealtimes. So we waited until 6am to run to the store to buy a test. I was on the telephone with my BFF in Chicago the entire time at the store, and in the car (pre-no cell phone laws) and was just astonished in the bathroom when I saw that positive result. I ran down the hall and told him, “We’re pregnant!” He was washing dishes at the sink, and was so astonished. Just like that, we were a family, in a different way. I felt strong and the recipient of a miracle. I will never forget that moment.

  39. Kim

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I woke up one morning around 4 a.m. and decided to take a test, it was negative. Well I went to the grocery store with my 1 year old and as we were walking by the pregnancy tests I started feeling lightheaded and nauseous, so I decided to go ahead a pick up a pack of EPT digital pregnancy tests. When I got home I took the test, and thought for sure it was going to be negative again, I mean I had just taken one earlier that morning, well to my supriise when I looked down at the test it read PREGNANT!! I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I took another one, and YEP I WAS in deed pregnant.

  40. Cheryl Greene

Anna and Alisa, Thanks for birthing and nurturing this important movement. The strides you make toward educating people about the importance of healthy living during pregnancy will undoubtedly change the lives of many in the next generation.

  41. Mom-to-be

We tried to get pregnant on our own for a long time with no luck so eventually we tried IVF. After the first cycle, we knew we had about a 50/50 chance that it worked. My official blood test at the clinic was scheduled for Monday, but I knew that I could find out sooner on a home test, so I couldn’t wait. The Thursday before the test, I decided to take my first test.

I knew that there was a chance at that point it would read negative even if I was pregnant because it was a little early, but still, I knew there was a chance it could be positive already and I just couldn’t wait to find out. My hands were shaking when I took that first test. I left the room because I didn’t want to stare at that blank space waiting for a line to appear. After a few minutes, I came back and saw the faintest of lines. I woke my husband up to show him. The line was faint, but it was definitely there. My husband wasn’t sure that a line so faint was a positive result but I assured him it was.

We were both so happy, but it was hard to feel pure joy at that moment because we were both scared. Happy because this was everything we wanted for so long, scared because it felt too good to be true, that it was so early, that something could still go wrong and it could be ripped away from us. The pregnancy has been a process of accepting that this IS finally happening, and there is reason to be joyful! I am 28 weeks pregnant now and I feel my little girl kicking me all day long, and it is the most wonderful thing I have ever felt. I can’t wait to meet her.

  42. Rachel

We already had two children, who were four and six. We were over the hump: No more diapers, no more car seats. We had invested in very effective birth control. We were all packed and ready to go down to the beach for the day. And I was late. My husband went to the store so I could get a negative test and stop worrying and we could get on with our day. Those two pluses changed our lives. And I am so thankful that they did.

  43. Jody Sherman

As a man, I can’t answer this question. But, I remember with complete clarity the moment my mother knew she was pregnant with my little brother. I was 6 and I was watching tv with her. She looked over at me and said, “I think you are going to have a brother.” I asked her how she knew and she said “I don’t know how I know, but I’m pretty sure you are going to be someone’s big brother.” It was like she just realized right at that moment and needed to tell someone.

  44. Charlotte

I had just come off of the pill, we were planning to start TTC in March/April/May 2010, but we both got too excited (we were waiting for my Green Card to get approved and it happened a LOT quicker than we were expecting) and started trying after my first period off of the pill in September…

I had a grumbly tummy for a few days and had spoken to my mum about it, she reckoned I had a bug, I considered it could be a pregnancy symptom, but started thinking something had just irritated my digestive system and made it a bit more sensitive than normal…

We bought a pack of tests and I did one at 8dpo – could I see a line?…Probably not! Damn line eye!

A few days later I was on my laptop in bed, talking to some friends on a pregnancy website; it was 3am and I started needing to pee – but I was trying to hold it so I could pee on a stick when I got up in the morning! A few minutes later I just decided I wouldn’t be able to sleep without peeing (or I’d wet myself!!) so I got up. I went to the bathroom and pulled out the packet of tests…I still had a few left…if I used one, then I’d still have some! I couldn’t help but feel it was a waste… I’d convinced myself that my grumbly tummy was definitely just an aggravated digestive system and I had no other symptoms that were as strong as I would’ve expected if I really was pregnant…Screw it! I pulled the test out of the wrapper and proceeded to pee on it.

I snapped the lid back on the wee’d on end and watched the liquid seep up the test….there was the faint first line that I’d seen so many times before…annnnnnnnnd that lovely blank space next to it that told me I wasn’t pregnant – damn—-wait a second…Is that a line or just my eyes seeing things, it is 3am!….OMG, that’s a line!…Isn’t it? I’m sure it is…

The faintest line ever came up…I didn’t believe it was a positive until it started to get darker as more dye stuck to it – there was definitely a line there! I needed confirmation from someone who wasn’t a crazy-seeing-a-line-on-every-test person though!

I rushed into the bedroom, half filled with excitement, but parts of me shocked and perhaps a little scared. I’d left the light in the bathroom on, so it was fairly dark in our room, but there was enough light to see. I got over to my husband and said his name until he finally woke up; I waved the test at him and asked him if there was a second line there. He peered at it for a moment and said yes! MY husband, without his glasses on, could see this second line in a half lit room! It wasn’t even half lit!!! It had to be true! Cripes! I couldn’t believe it; our first month of trying and we’d managed to get pregnant! I’d actually pee’d on a test that came up POSITIVE. Wow. I really was in shock…excited, but…wow!

  45. Ron

I still wonder… Did that dish fall out of my hand that I was washing when my wife said “uh, honey”

  46. jules

it’s a deep & layered cake… the emotions that go into the moment…the knowing, the feeling, the entire process, welcoming the spirit… all of it is happening & i am so in tune with it and then the test shows positive and i am forever stunned. it’s always a comedy to my husband… i always wonder – should we try it again? and then i have to remind myself that it’s rarely wrong on the positive. it’s a state of awe tatooed on your soul.. and then that awe grows, stretches, widens to capacities like no other… physically and in every other way. pregnancy is an art form… it’s perfect in it’s every piece, it’s process week by week prepares you for your birth as a mama…. abstract, mysterious, all knowing & wise. the entire process of birthing into a mama is the teacher… if you are lucky to get quiet & be in the intimacy.. there is nothing like it.

  47. Kirstin

With the first child we took the test 2 days into the pregnancy. Somehow I just knew. I called my doctor and said “I think I’m pregnant” when asked the reason I said “I took a pregnancy test and it said I was” and they said “Well then you are.” I was shocked that they didn’t want to confirm my findings and I was thrilled that I really was pregnant. The next pregnancy was only a year later. It was a complete surprise and I was 5 months along before I knew. I was too busy chasing around a 1 yr old to notice any of the signs, and the ones I did notice I thought I could explain. The severe fatigue was blamed on the 1yr old I already had. I’d just stopped nursing so my weight gain must be that. And my cycle had been out of whack since the arrival of the first child. When I was complaining about being run down to my neighbor (who is a mother and general practitioner) she suggested what probably seemed obvious, that I might be pregnant. We were numb when it was confirmed.

  48. Heather

I found out I was pregnant with our first son on my 28th birthday. What a present! I found out I was pregnant with our second son right after the new year 2 years later.

  49. Sara Snow

After 6 years of negative pregnancy tests I had no reason to believe that I was actually pregnant. Ryan and I had stopped “trying” and were ready to begin the adoption process. But the spirit of this baby that I had been talking to, welcoming into our lives, finally decided to join us.
I knew I was pregnant long before I took that test but as I took it, for the first time in 6 years, I sat and watched it process, knowing it would be positive. My hands shook, I cried and I thanked God. And in about a week she will join us! What an amazing journey it has already been!
