Needing the lowdown from the Dad’s here before I send myself OVER THE EDGE trying to find the perfect gift and the perfect activity for Father’s Day.  I have lived through a few hollow Mother’s Days, that although well intended, just felt kind of flat..you know?  Is that mean? No!  Let’s use this info to help us give Dad what HE wants this year!

One of the easiest ways is to, dare I say it, ASK HIM!  Yep, a sweet inquiry of “Hon, what are you dreaming about doing this Dad’s day?” might be incredibly illuminating.  Let them create the activity template, and you produce it – meaning:  make it happen.

Some guys might want to have a dad alone day, kind of like our version of the mother’s day spa package that turns into an entire weekend of massage and jacuzzi bliss…oh, that’s my fantasy, right?  Oops, well, you get my drift.

Pregnancy Awareness Month resident Daddy Advisory Team Member, Robert “Daddy” Nickell, has polled 100 dads in the past 100 days and here is the response he got:

  1. Spend the day with my kids and family, either going to the beach, or playing.  Just having a relaxing day together.
  2. Take some personal time, play some golf, and end the day barbecuing with the family.

So, sounds like what we want too as mom’s, but the only way you will find out what camp your baby’s dad is in this year, is to ask him…

Gifts? Yeah, gotta get a gift ladies.  My hubby says the handmade ones from the kiddos is the best!  I say, use your discretion on this…if you are a big DIY mom and spend mucho time on Pinterest logging ideas, this holiday is a dream come true for you.  For the rest of us, well, let’s just say I’m starting to perspire at the mere thought. If they are old enough to draw, or make a cute object, go for it!  I have had success when she was a baby with a framed picture of just her for his office or workspace.  I think as they get older, you need to purchase something or else it looks like you are cheaping out!  Brunch is a big deal for my hubby, my advice, make reservations, waiting in line at a restaurant takes the air out of the morning completely.

A couple more tips from some dads:

  • From a first time dad, who’s baby was delivered 9 days ago, “I just want to be mellow.  No big plans.”
  • Robert “Daddy” Nickell, father to 7 kids, “I want to get the kids, go to church, then walk down into town, have a big breakfast, and afterwards go hang at the beach and PLAY!”

Trust this helps!  Enjoy the day, whatever you do, go, or eat!
