Parenting is hard. OK, it’s harder than hard. It can be incredibly difficult at times. As the parent to 16, 13, 12 and 5 year olds right now, I question exactly how I’m doing and whether I have failed my children somewhere along the way. I’m not the perfect parent by any stretch. And after reading “The Go-To Mom’s Parents’ Guide to Emotion Coaching Young Children”, by Kimberley Clayton Blaine, I realize I have some serious catching up to do.

Your Sacred Pregnancy ~ Moving from fear to faith
When I was pregnant with my first son over 7 years ago, I knew I wanted to have a home birth with a midwife. For most of my life, I had had an innate distrust of hospitals and allopathic medicine, (having had epilepsy as a girl, years of multiple hospital visits and years of pharmaceutical drugs). Of course as I type this, and as I read that blog, intellectually I know and knew that was pretty much impossible. Let’s face it, she has had several fevers in her life, and they run their course, she gets better, and life continues.

We believe wholeheartedly that self care is an activity that requires practice. That is one of the reasons why we dedicate an entire week during the month of Pregnancy Awareness Month® (May) to the theme of Nurture. This is a favorite past newsletter article that we thought was worth posting on this blog page, especially during the final days of 2010. Consider taking some quality time with yourself and make it a resolution for 2011 to do it often. Remember our children watch us and mimic, let them mimic this practice.
