As soon as your little one comes into your world the age ‘ol philosophy is true! That pregnant women and mommies with newborns need to protect their sleep. Sleep deprivation is an underlying cause for many problems large and small for moms and families. Sleep: As most parents of small children know, it’s the Holy Grail. Having a child who sleep well means having a child who is more likely to be even-tempered, easier to please, and more compliant. And a mom and dad who are rested, refreshed, and ready to face the day with their energetic bundle of joy. The two are divinely linked; one very much supports and creates the other. Your awareness around your intentions to create life within your womb is deeply spiritual. Your ability to consciously conceive your child has everything to do with your own conscious walk on the planet right now. If you truly desire to consciously conceive your baby, then the opportunity exists for you to do so in a sacred, mindful and deliberate way.

Caring for my child last weekend with a high fever confronted me with the reality that I have “fever phobia”. A blog I was reading on Dr.Greene.com described me perfectly; basically panicking that the fever my child was exhibiting would somehow be the end of her. Of course as I type this, and as I read that blog, intellectually I know and knew that was pretty much impossible. Let’s face it, she has had several fevers in her life, and they run their course, she gets better, and life continues.

The role of the birthing doula gained popularity from the studies of Dr. Marshall Klaus and John Kennel, illustrating the benefits of the presence of a doula during the labor process (Klaus, Kennel, and Klaus 1993). The doula phenomenon took force from groups of mothers searching for a better experience during childbirth. One of the most sacred roles of the birth doula is to preserve the memory that the mother and her partner will have of their birthing experience.

Spinach. Eggs. Parsley. Peanuts. Beef. Last year was a landmark for food recalls – so many we seemed to all glaze over at the news of yet another sweeping net of bites-gone-bad. What you don’t hear about every day, though, are the millions of people affected by tainted food every year and the lives affected. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said last month that about one in six Americans gets sick – over 46 million – and 3,000 die from food borne diseases each year including, but not limited to: E.coli, Salmonella and Listeria.
