What can you do to make life with your new baby easier and more enjoyable? Be kind to yourself. Remember that getting to know one another is an ongoing and life-long process. You don’t have to have all the answers.
Observe your baby. When she cries, go to her with wonder. “Your crying. I wonder what you need. You’ve just been fed and you have a new diaper. Perhaps you need to rest.”
During caregiving times, when you’re diapering, feeding or bathing your baby, give her your full, undivided attention. By doing this, you send the message, “I care about you. You are important.”
Slow down, take each other in and enjoy the gift of parenthood.
