Our Big Day
It’s hard to believe that a little over a week ago we kicked-off the 4th Annual Pregnancy Awareness Month® in Santa Monica at The Writer’s Bootcamp in Bergamot Station, presented by O.N.E. Coconut Water. Our jaws dropped open as the doors opened to a line of 600+ pregnant and parenting women flowing through the front doors. Their beautiful bumps as well as their babies beautifully displayed as they walked in. Those 200 gift bags were gone in less than 20 minutes!
The day was jam packed with activities and fun. It commenced with a rallying welcome by P.A.M. Advisor and Stroller Strides® founder Lisa Druxman. Even our signature sponsor at O.N.E. got mike time to cheer and kick-off the day. O.N.E. Coconut Water’s own Emilie Fritz Velozo ushered the guests toward the main stage where expert panels and raffle giveaways abounded.
While Renee & Jeremy rocked their live performance in the courtyard, dancing, laughing, and giggles could be heard from the crowd. Young children potted plants and played with reptiles in Ladybug Jane’s outdoor activity area. The courtyard buzzed with action as guests moved from table to table learning and sampling from our sponsors and vendors. Children squealed with delight at the Sno-Con Amor booth, our favorite was coconut. And for the hungry mommy or pregnant woman, the tacos and meatball deliciousness from gourmet food trucks: The Border Grill and Vesuvio, hit the spot.
Inside the energy sizzled thanks to author & style expert Amy Tara Koch’s Bump it Up Style Lounge (with the most amazing cupcakes we have EVER tasted). There was more Ladybug Jane fun with children getting face painted and non-toxic mani/pedis, and making arts and crafts. Kept our kids occupied for sure! Upstairs offered a tranquil twist as GreenBliss Eco and Holistic Spa that provided mommy pampering services, with scented candles and soothing music, it was relax city. Thanks to Jane Iredale for the mini makeovers and Freshology for the deceptively yummy spa food that was high on yum and low on calories.
The hub of activity definitely reverberated in the main stage. A large room with round tables and couch lounge area. It was standing room only for the entire day. Expert panels including: “Building the Foundation for Good Nutrition” moderated by Anna Getty, with experts: Alan Greene, MD, FAAP, Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, and EWG’s Renee Sharp. Happiest Baby on the Block author, Dr. Harvey Karp, along with doula Ana P. Markel, and Alyssa Berlin, PsyD completed the 2nd Expert Panel which focused on how to manage life post baby: “So the Baby is Here, Now What?”, moderated by Alisa Donner.
The energy leapt into celebration during A Pea in the Pod®’s Exotic High Summer Excursion Maternity Fashion Show, produced by Expecting Models and MCd by style expert Amy Tara Koch. Those gorgeous models inspired many a whisper of “Where can I buy that?”
What a fab day! How could we have kicked of the month better? Oh, we can’t forget to mention celebrity hosts and guests: Ali Larter, Amy Smart, Anna Getty, Autumn Reeser, James Van Der Beek, and Lisa LoCicero. Four years ago we (Anna Getty & Alisa Donner) envisioned a celebration of pregnant women and mothers that would combine education with fun and glam. We certainly lived it on Sunday May 1st.
The month has only just begun. Keep checking in for our weekly giveaways, Twitter Parties, online newsletters, RadioBlog shows, and licensed events – perhaps in a town near you..
We thank all of you who came out, the volunteers, and our sponsors & partners for helping actualize this dream.
With special thanks to our wonderful event coordinator/concierge, Jeannine Chanin-Penn of XOJ9 for connecting all the dots and crossing all the T’s. And to our social media manager Krista Conway of Trendy Media Group for braving the LA freeways to give us her snap, crackle, and pop.
